Forecast in detail

What a nice treat we’ve had this weekend with lower humidity. That continues to be the case today — so try to get out and enjoy — though we do trend a touch warmer. A daily shower and storm chance returns tomorrow through Friday thanks to a persistent disturbance in the upper atmosphere. Temperatures are fairly typical for the time of year through Wednesday but then surge deep into the 90s Thursday and Friday.

Today (Sunday): Another fairly pleasant day for late July. Skies are mostly sunny with highs near 90 to the low 90s. Sure it’s a little warm, a few degrees hotter than yesterday, but humidity is still on the low side for this time of year. Winds are light, around 5 to 10 mph, and variable in direction. Confidence: High

Tonight: A mostly clear and comfortable evening, turning a touch more humid overnight as a light wind from the south brings moister air. Lows fall back to the upper 60s and low 70s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Monday): Not a bad way to start the workweek, with mostly sunny morning skies. But by afternoon, we’re heating up to highs in the low to mid-90s, with perhaps some increasing clouds. It’ll feel more humid, as well, with an isolated shower or thunderstorm possible by late afternoon. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Partly to mostly cloudy and increasingly muggy, with a stray shower possible. It’s fairly warm, too, with lows only in the low to mid-70s. Confidence: Medium-High

A look ahead

Tuesday and Wednesday both feature partly sunny skies, high humidity and the chance of isolated to scattered showers and storms during the afternoon into evening. Tuesday isn’t too hot, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, then low to mid-90s Wednesday as the heat index climbs to the mid- to upper 90s. Partly to mostly cloudy Tuesday and Wednesday night with lows in the low to mid-70s. Confidence: Medium

Building heat is the main story Thursday and Friday, with highs at least in the mid- to upper 90s the way it looks now and heat indexes rising to near or over 100. Too early to say much about rain chances, but as of now, at least an isolated shower or storm is possible each day. Confidence: Low-Medium
